Hey folks, Last year I bought my first Harley, a 2009 Nightster. Over the last 9 months Ive modded, chopped and totally customized it. Buuuuut, no matter what I bolt on, chop off or change, its small, cramped, and uncomfortable, especially on my bad lower back. So, upon looking around in the local dealer last week I stumbled on the new Wide Glide. Now this appears to be a bike I could "live" with, larger frame, larger motor, forward controls, and room for a passenger. My questions are these... Number one, will I like the move from a 1200 Sportster to a 96ci big bike and the extra room and comfort it offers, and two, is this change worth a extra $50 a month? The financing is ran, the deal is made, and thats all it'll cost me to upgrade, Im just having issues being able to justify it. C'mon Dyna owners, chime in and give me some opinions!!!
Not just yes, but Hell Yes. I made a similar change in November, 2009 Nightster to a 2009 St Bob. Don't regret it one bit, and I know it is a bike that I can keep long term. Bought the Nightster to get back on a bike after 30 years off. Knew it was too small for my frame but was a good place to restart. Love the way the Dyna feels and the gf is comfortable on the back.
I was in a similar situation. I had a 09 Iron and moved to a 2010 Wide Glide. I also have a bad back and the comfort of this bike allows me to ride a lot longer than I could with the sportster. If you can afford it, make the change and you will not regret it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
Let's be honest...you aren't really looking for "opinions." :-) You are looking for encouragement. I bought a '10 Wide Glide after test driving four bikes, including a Nightster to my heart's content. Don't regret it a single day....I say if the extra $50 a month really isn't going to strain you GO FOR IT!!!
USA you are 100% correct. The $50 extra a month isnt going to strain me a bit. Im curious though, what are you guys paying a month for your WG's? Im $275 a month on my Nightster and would be at $322 a month on the WG. But yes, bottom line is that I am lookin for a "push", AND the opinions from WG owners about what I WILL like over the Sporty!
I really dig both bikes. The 48 is super badass as well. I opted for the Street Bob for the comfort on a longer distance ride. I'm paying $170/mo for 5 years

Thanks Guys
I am a bit lower on the payment than you - and $50 more a month than what I started off thinking I would want to pay for a M/C payment....but damn I liked the look and FEEL of my WG. I realized it wouldn't really strain me so.....
Don't get me wrong the Nightster I drove was HECKA fun, but I started thinking about some of the longer rides I knew I wanted to take and just didn't think my "getting older" bones would appreciate being rattled for long periods of time.
I love my WG and can't WAIT for the weather around here to break to get back out on the road.
I made the switch up last Sept. XL883L to the 09 St.Bob. Some say the St.Bob is a Sportster on steriods - that's okay with me. You will only regret you didn't do it sooner. Good Luck
I traded from 08 nightster to 09 bob...glad I did...the ride is smoother, bigger engine, 6th speed tranny, bigger fuel tank and gas gauge...I love my bob I think the extra $50 is well worth it...I will tell you one thing though...I was a little dissapointed as I drove off the dealership...my nighster had a high flow a/c..v/h pipes and and fuel pack...I was expecting the '96 engine to really impress me and it didn't at first...my nighster felt stronger to me...but after the same type of mods on my bob, i'm very happy...go for it...I really doubt you'll regret it...
