Outstanding idea, man. I'm on my second Dyna, and the jack has always been an aggravation. Might still be a prob with the FXDWG for clearance reasons, but I could probably finesse that issue if I could just get the bike to sit level on it. Clever. Gotta give it a shot.
Hey thanks for the jack mod. Works great on my 11 Dyna Street Bob! Picked up the jack on sale for 80 bucks and about 15 bucks for the parts to do the modifications.
I have the aluminum Sears jack. which cost a bit more, but I'm gonna have to give this mod a shot when I get home. Need to get the bike up for some work, and I always dread that.
I'm also thinking that a little extension on the ends of the lifting pads might make some folks more comfortable when the jack initially touches the stand.
This is definitely one of those "why didn't I think of that?" moments. Thanks for the post and the vid! I know it's been up for quite a while, but this is the first I've seen of it.
I saw this mod last year and finally had a rainy Saturday to give it a shot. Not only does it work great on my Dyna it also makes my Ultra feel more stable on the jack. Quite often I jack up my bikes on my sightly uphill driveway while washing and this modification made a profound difference. I also use square tubing with a small piece of the tubing pointing down at the end and slide them in the larger square tubing on the jack to create "Landing Jacks". This really stabilizes things.

Something you can try to keep this a one-man operation is to buy a wheel chock. I bought one from Harbor Freight for like $50. It'll hold the bike upright while you focus on getting the jack underneath.
The reason your bike is not sitting level on the jack is because the frame underneath is irregular. One part sits lower than the other parts. The mod spreads the lift pads apart so they will pick the bike up at the flat/level points of the frame.
Harbor Freight Yellow Jack is almost identical, you do not have to cut the center bar out, you can do the "SC-Mod" to it as well and you can get it on sale right now.
There is a coupon for the HF motorcycle lift in the July Thunder Press for 59.00. Lowest I have seen it. Bar code on the coupon reads 27760677 good through 10-15-11
Another forum member entered the coupon # on line and just printed the check out page and the local HF honored the price, so no shipping charge.

well I got the HF jack works good with the SC-mod thanks for the idea Vic.
with the HF all you have to do is unbolt the crappy bolts and buy some good grade 8'S and drill out the bolt holes alittle and you be lifting up your dyna fast and easy . Just remeber when you lift to the desired height use the sftey locks and then take some press off the ram.

thanks Vic you freaking genius
Sorry but what does " take some press off the ram" mean? I am thinking about getting the HF jack. It's the yellow one, correct?

it means to engage the safety mechanism, and then lower the jack so the weight of the bike is held by the safety and not directly up by the lift itself. If it works like the sears jack, Dreamer is 100% correct in what he stated.
