By the way, long time reader, first post. Thanks to all for the help.
Welcome aboard.

My concern for the bolts carrying much more weight is the reason I upgraded them to 1/2".

This may ease your mind:

Thanks for the reply and the link. Looks like I'm off to the hardware store.

Not sure what Vic used for bolts, but I intend to use grade 8 for a little insurance. 4 bolts holding 700 lbs should not be a problem, but you should probably inspect them every now and then until you are comfortable with it.

Rich, I'm fairly certain I used just a standard bolt which I am fairly certain is grade 2. I did look for G5 or G8 but my lil smalltown hardware store doesn't have a huge selection. Lowe's is about 40min drive one way. I just didn't feel like taking that drive. Next time I'm in that area I may just get some grade 8 bolts, also for just a little insurance.

There does seem to be a good bit of metal to deal with. If someone was concerned with a 1/2" bolt not carrying the load, I didn't see a problem with drilling the existing holes to 9/16". Now if that can't hold a ~700lbs motorcycle, I don't know what will.

I may cash in on that because I have an aunt that lives in Sonoma just a few blocks outside of downtown.

Enjoy your J&S. It's definitely a quality piece of equipment.

Would you mind posting the model number for your jack? I have the Harbor Freight one that appears to be the same, but I need some replacement parts to fix it, which Harbor Freight can't seem to provide. I'd like to look up the equivalent Sears parts, but their website doesn't recognize the model number posted on their webpage.

Thanks.

Great mod!! I to have the HF yellow lift. If anyone knows how to do a similar mod to it, I'd appreciate it. If I get a chance I'll see what I can come up with. I'd love to be able to lift my FatBob that easy.
