I did this with my jack a few weeks ago. I have a jack from Northern Tool. I only had to do one side to make it clear, and it feels much more stable now.
Hey man..LTNS. Remember we met at SO X @ The Rock. How ya doin?
I have the Sears Yellow jack. The pads are not bolted on. The rubber pads are integral to the lift arms. Then, in these pads, are holes (2 in each lift pad) into which there are lift pad risers (for lack of a better term) that give you additional height for something like an ATV or something. After I saw your mod, I wanted to see if the same thing could be done to my Sears yellow jack.
Awhile back, Vic posted some measurements of the HD Dyna lift adapters. I think he worked it out that if one were to use pieces of 2x4 in place of the 3 lift adapters, and not use the small black adapter at all, that the bike would sit level. (correct me if I'm wrong here Vic)
I have the Sears yellow jack too. I've been meaning to bolt 2x4's through those holes where the ATV pads would drop in on the lift arms. So while we can't move our lift pads wider, I think we can bolt 2x4's on the lift pads where the HD adapters would normally sit, thereby doing away with the need for the adapters entirely.
I just read this post and I can hardly understand what the hell I mean but hopefully you can.

That was actually someone else. I was perusing that thread a few minutes ago when I stumbled upon it looking for something else.
Thanks a million Vic! Every time I used mine, I felt like I was damaging something on the bike. Are you going to cut the lower brace to make room for the jiffy? I am going to try it. I only paid $40 for my jack on Craigslist. I will let you know.

Possibly. At the moment, the jack works fine in current form.
