OK, so i don't want to read the whole thing but my question is...is the red jack is modded to fit the Dyna, will it fit the touring bike normally also? i am looking at upgrading my jack and i have a 02 Dyna and a 07 FLHTC, wondering if anybody has lifted another bike with htis mod.
Bought the ATV/cycle Jack from Harbor Freight the other day. With discount coupon I got it for $69.95 and with the usual mods it works great to lift my 08 FXD Super Glide. I went with a 1/2" space on one side and about 1 3/16"
on the other. I used large washers for spacers. I could have used a little more spacing but it's ok for now.
2--6" bolt
2--7" bolts
lots of washers
4--lock Nuts

1 3/16" spacer on one side? That's a lot of spacer.
My bolts on mine are not tight at all so things can rotate as it lifts, they do not need to be tight, the nuts only keep the bolts in place. Use jamb nuts if you want, but no need to tighten the nuts.
Mine was fully lifted when that earthquake hit in DC a couple years ago, no straps and everything held just fine.
So I realized it's not that the grade 8 bolt is bending, it's more that the jack frame itself is twisting slightly under the weight, due to the fact that the load is so far out on the bolts. I'm only using about 3/4" spacers on both sides too. I think I need to put a metal spacer inside the frame's u-channel with the bolt running through it to give the frame more strength. I'm not really worried about it though.
Yes Red Dragons you do need some spacers between the U channels... I used a piece in 1/2 inch water pipe between all 4 bolts and it works great. Try it.

Yep, finally got to use the modified jack last week-end and it worked like a charm. I used a 1/2" of washers on each bolt as spacers.
I did the mod to move lift pads outboard. Seems to work ok, my problem I didn't like was the Xbar on the front of the jack hits the Jiffy stand.Doesn't allow the jack to have much of foot print on frame. I cut it off & re-welded it about 3-4" back. I haven't tried it yet. But I believe that will make me feel better when I lift it next time.
Jack is $119.00 at store, online & go to same store to pickup $76+tax and it's up front waiting for you!!!
