I haven't done this to mine, yet. But, this morning, I got to put Vic's mod to use. Slicker than turkey snot on a pump handle.

Tip of the day: Don't over-tighten your primary case drain plug.

Great mod. Did mine 2 weeks back. Cost me 60 bucks for the jack off craigslist and $10.58 in hardware, and about 10 minutes start to finish to mod. I've used it twice already and so far so good.

I know why you put the spacer in there, I also used some spacers just to make things quicker. But, I would lose that long spacer and go with a 1/2" spacer on each side. That long of a spacer and you are going to have problems later on as it weakens the mounting area and bolt.

You think so? The pads (C-frame) look pretty beefy and also looks like grade 8 hardware. It would make sense to put 1/2" spacers at all 4 corners to keep it symmetrical to distribute the weight equally so the jack doesn't become unstable.

A Grade 2 Bolt 3/8" diameter has a shear strength of 830 lbs on the bolt body and 510 lbs at the thread root. A 1/2" Grade 2 bolt is 1470 and 940. Per bolt.

I think you're safe.

Sears has that jack on sale through today, online. Seriously considering it.

Grendel, there are better jacks out there but to be honest after performing this mod I'm pretty satisfied with the $120+$10 I spent on this jack so far.

From previous posts, don't lose your receipt incase the seals go bad.
