Was thinking I could just cut the center brace in half, swap the sides and be left with lifting handles on the outside of the jack to help with picking the thing up and putting it in the back of a truck... Maybe some end caps to cover the cut ends... Or would this cause a problem coming into contact with the rear wheel... I will have to see...
I just added a 04 Wide Glide to stable. Have used the Craftsman jack in stock configuration for 3 years with good results on my Electra Glide. Does anyone know if the jack mod to make it workable with the Dyna will make it less usable on the Electra Glide ( I haven't had a chance to do any measuring).
I took your idea with the jack mod, and changed it up a bit... I cut the center bar in half at the 4.5 mark and added chair end caps to cover the ends, then went back to your design. Here are the picks of the finished mod. Looks like it is supposed to that way... well I could have used 5.5 bolts and not the 6, but that is what they had in stock...
Anyway it works great.... my son I and lifted it around the garage area
makes it easy to grip hold of. and it fits fine under my 2008 FatBob just fine.

That's pretty slick! I love to see how mods continue to evolve with new ideas.
Based upon recommendations on some other threads, I picked up a HF jack yesterday - the steel one, and just finished putting it together. Now, off to True Value to pick up some 5" bolts so I can move the pads to the outside!

Mind if I ask what the purpose of leaving the support halves attached?

That's great, Slowride. Glad it worked out for you.
I guess if you make the cut in the middle you could move the pads to the out side and then use some ubing to weld the bar back together and you have center support as well?
