Started to install the Thundermax in my 09 Dyna, took off the side cover and looked at the tightness of the ECM slot, then read in the instructions that they recommend a pigtail for the computer connection on a Dyna. I will be doing engine mods in stages, the reason I went with the TMAT in the first place, has anyone used this pigtail and does it fit?
I have not used the communications pigtail, but would really like to. Unfortunately I purchased my ThunderMax prior to Aug 2008 and my mine is not compatible with the pigtail. With the Dyna models we have to install the ThunderMax ECM upside down which puts the communications port on the bottom and inaccessible. This requires the communications cable to remain plugged in and the several feet of cable to be coiled up and stuffed under the seat. With the communications pigtail you would be able to put the end of the cable inside of the electrical caddy for easy access with the cover pulled off. I have to remove the seat every time I want to hook up the ThunderMax which is a little annoying but easy to do. I would highly recommend spending the money and time to install the communications pigtail while you’re in their installing the ECM anyway.
Sorry for the poor quality of the pics.
I ordered the pigtail with the unit because I didn't know if there would be room for the whole cable. Now that it's in there I'm glad that I did. Yes, it works, not too bad of an install. You need to read and follow the instructions about pulling / replacing the pin in the ECM connector. Additional 10 - 15 minutes maybe 30 if you're a tard like me.
First one is "stowed" second is "pulled out for use".
