This past May I did 2,800 miles in one week using Edge Bags/Brackets, a Bikers Friend XL Bag and a Windvest 18" shield and HD heated vest and gloves. Would recommend somewhat larger shield for touring for weather protection. I would also make sure to sacrifice that goat to Zeus next time...he got a bit pissed.
Just did a 2700 mile tour to NE Maine and back. 350 miles a day for 7 days. I was comfy, but I need better luggage for sure. My Willie and Max bags are falling apart now, and I really don't like the sissy bar bag solution. I'm gonna mount a hard topcase and get some Leatherpros detachable bags before my next long trip.
Just got home from a 9 days trip from the Netherlands South via Germany and Switserland into France going across the French Alps via La route des Grandes Alpes to the Mediterranean and back North via Route Napoleon; all in all 3.900km (2.423 miles).
My 2003 FXD performed great and I haven't had any troubles at all. The last lap I did a little over 1.000 km (630 miles) in 15 hours.
Here's my touring set-up:
QD windscreen, FXDP saddlebags, floorboards & seat, chopped tour trunk on a QD solo rack....

I took a second trip to Ohio this summer, earlier this month, 2995 miles, first to Kansas City, MO then over to Bay Village, OH and then home via Columbus, Nashville and Memphis, etc.
Great trip! Loved it all! Way up, about three days 550 or 600 miles each in the saddle. On the way back, two days 700 miles or so each day.
I know one thing: the Corbin Dual Tour seat really makes it possible. This week I took off the Corbin and put the stock Fat Bob seat on for the first time in eighteen months, just for the hell of it. I took a ride each day, about 130 miles per day. I gave the seat a chance. . . I couldn't stand to be on it more than an hour at a time, I squirmed and fidgeted it and didn't remember it being that uncomfortable, but I was sure happy to put the Corbin back on!
Here's a photo of my '06 Street Bob from a 2200mi road trip last summer.
The quick release locking hard bags and tour pak are by Leatherlyke. The Mustang wide-solo w/rider backrest and HD highway pegs make the bike very comfortable for all-day riding. I also swapped in the factory shocks for this trip. I usually have 11.5" Progressive 440 shocks installed. But the longer factory shocks seem to soak up the bumps better.
All the time! my bigger trip was abot 500 miles in one day.
Dynas are qyite nice even NOW they are the only Harleys with vibrations!!
The adjustments i made for trips are:
1. Footpegs WITH heelrest by quryakyn...excellent choice.
2. Sissybar so that i can fasten a rucksuck and fully lean back.
3. Thrown over saddlebags without support.Which work great because the sit high enough not causing troubles to the drivebelt or suspensions.
4. Sissybar rack when riding two up. Even Harley says rucks are for 5 Kgs (!!!!!!!) i many times adjusted there up to 15 Kgrs of stuff WITHOUT any problems.
5. 14 in apehangers aligned to the fork wich gave me the chance to lean back.
6. Mustange vintage solo seat. The wide one! It is great but i should have bought one with a driver's backrest!!
I do not have a windshield.I used one once and air hit my helmet a bit and made it a little unstable.Propably i used the wrong windshield...
Currently i'm looking for rear suspension because stock ones SUCK!!
At max load they bottom out even with the spring fully preloaded!!

I'd opt for the Chrome 1 1/4" handlebars, full chrome controls & switches, chrome hand levers and add some diamondbacks.....but that's me. Oh, and dont forget part number 68185-00 the Chrome turn signal swivel assembly mounting brackets to complete it all up there.......... but that's just my opinion
Hey 883 Iron, what is that little do dad that you have hiding on the front of your handlebar clamp with a wire running to it? Where did you get it, in case it is something I need?
Cheers.
