Default Need to vent ... and maybe some advice (long read)

First off, 'props' to txrarebear for an awesome deal on his take-off T-Max ....

So, I've been eagerly getting my 'ducks in a row' for the install ... mostly, getting a serial to USB connector, the O2 bungs and lining up someone to weld them into my headpipes ....

This morning, I get to the muffler shop and they do their work and I get back around 1100 .... Now, I'm staying at the BOQ in Yorktown (CBQ actually) and since 9-11 or whenever, they now build the parking lots far from the building so that a Timothy McVeigh-type bomber who detonates a truck bomb in the parking lot can't hurt anyone in the building ... so, that means its a five minute walk from my bike to my room any time I need to go up and get something (also makes it a PITA to lug your groceries up or move in, etc.) ....

Well, I got everything tool-wise (more or less) ... a couple of minor things like when you take apart the electrical 'caddy' you need a small screwdriver to release the tabs on the fuse blocks ... my screwdriver (that I have here) is too big ... well, if you just take the thing (electrical caddy) off the bike and squeeze your hand around behind it, you can press the tabs down from the rear and release the fuse blocks ....

But, it takes longer for almost everything .... [I have most all the tools I need in Tacoma; but, I can't carry that **** with me on a plane and didn't have room to pack it all when I drove across country ....] So, around 1500 I had it all buttoned back up and about to start up ... I thought "not sure what map txrarebear had in the ECM, so I'll just load up a new base map" ... and proceeded to do so ....

Well, after the 20 minute round trip back up to my room to get my laptop so I could hook up to the T-Max ECM I get set up and load the map ... well, that went great ... was able to 'link' to the 'module' ... writing the map to the module was a success ....

So, I get on it to start it up .... rrrrrr-rrrrrrr-rrrrrr-rrrrrr ... nothing ...

Starter motor would turn over, but not hit off ... would not start ....

So, I start looking at the troubleshooting guide ... is the wire to the fuel pump pinched or shorting out? I trace the wiring, check the fuse ... did I plug the wires back on to the spark plugs? Did I plug the coil in? Yes, yes ... aw fvck ... is it the fuel pump? ...

Oh, wait ... after perusing my service manual I start to think maybe I need to reset the password to my ECM ... since I took the original OEM one out? I reset the key fob IAW para 8.20 ... but, I had the switch set to run ... (did everything else in accordance with) ...

By the time I thought about the password/code reset, my battery was on its last leg ... I had run it down trying to start it earlier ... FVCK!

... well, I was able to get the key fob reset IAW the svc manual (I think--I had the rocker switch set to 'run' vice 'off' ... does it make a difference?) ... have jumper cables on my Jeep recharging the battery as we speak (or as I speak anyway ...) ... tried the password reset IAW table 8-9, but have no confidence that I did it correctly or whether it's necessary--if the fuel pump is actually fried ....

I got voltage to the connector to the fuel pump at the console/fuel tank top plate panel ... so thinking that the fuel pump is getting electricity ... but, the indicator light is a little squirrelly and I don't hear the soft whirring sound it usually makes when starting it up ....

So, for now, having a jalepeno popper appetizer while waiting for my dinner to cook (someone remind me when it's 2045 Eastern time) and consulting with the three wise men (does Jose make 1800? also, I'm assuming there is a wise man/person associated with the maker of Tamdhu single-malt Scotch whisky, and with Stoli ... ) and sampling the products of Pottsville PA (that's Yuengling lager, for the uninitiated) ... I'm sure that will help my cognitive processes (NOT!) ....

Oh well ... thanks for listening ... and any advice ....

The program response appeared the way the users guide showed it ... I even downloaded it a second time thinking that may have been the problem ....

If all else fails you could go back to stock and see if it fires. Good luck Todd, wish I could be more helpful.

What ... thought you were going to remind me it's 2045 ...? J/K ... feel a little better with some dinner in me (beef tips au jus, sparrow's grass spears and some brie and crackers ... creme brulee for a little later ...)

That was one of the fall-back recommendations (revert to the stock ECM) ... guess that would test my theory about the fuel pump ... and, I think it would be slightly less time-consuming now that I've done it once ...!

THX ...! Anyone else?

p.s. removed the Dobeck Techlusion TFI unit, so went back and checked connections on the fuel injectors at least 2 or 3 times (and anything I might have jarred while doing that--IAC, MAP, TPS, etc.) ....

Did you re-initialize the system after you loaded the map? It has to be cycled 3 times on & off for 30 seconds each.

I thought about that, as well, so double or triple checked ... wasn't sure why that would interefere with the fuel flow, though ... but, I did think of that too ... pretty much went through the whole wiring harness ... that's why I was so stumped ... figured maybe it was down to either (i) the fuel pump or (ii) the pass code ....

Thats not what I actually meant to suggest...lol I was thinking something about the injectors and somehow got way sidetracked.

Anyway, is it possible the tmax marries to a bike like some of the other fuel management add-ons and because it's not seeing the original codes, it's gone kaput?
