I'd recommend the Niterider IED. It does make it run richer, and I think it will help. Besides, it will also make it run cooler. It's about 80.

Call Jamie at Fuel Moto, he can sell you a nice S/E breather and a fuel tuner already pre-programmed and ready to install.....It made my bike run great.319 dollars i believe was the price...Well worth it.

You don't have to get a new AC and pipes to run a tuner. The PCV has a program for a stock bike. That being said a new bike shouldn't be pinging like that. There are knock sensors to prevent that. You should have the dealer look at it and check all of the sensors and ECM.

Its an idea but these only help with closed-loop running and you aren't in closed-loop when accelerating to get pinging.

Bottom line here is that the bike shouldn't do it; neither from stock nor after a stage-1 done properly. If it is doing it then there is a fault and, in my experience, here are the four most likely causes of pinging:

1. Its not pinging at all. Its a loose exhaust component like the head flange bolts or a heatshield clamp. Or else some other loose part like an engine mount.

Just take a spanner to every nut, bolt and screw you can see and check none are loose.

2. Bad fuel. Seems in the US you get some really variable grades of fuel like you do in the remoter parts of Europe.

If you have shopped around though and tried other gas stations then forget this one.

3. A combination of too lean plus too advanced ignition. With a 2010 this seems relatively unlikely as it has a mild advance table (max 28° under load), anti-knock built into the coil and a well-proven ECU using O2 sensors to keep the AFR just the right side of too lean.

If it is this then its a fault from factory with the maps that have been installed or else it could be a faulty O2 (or other) sensor. First port of call should be the dealer. Failing that then you need something like a SEPST that is going to let you inspect the timing and AFR tables along with a auto-tune feature.

4. Leak at the intake manifold.

Squirt unlit butane from a lighter or blow-torch at the manifold while the engine running. If the revs change with the gas on the manifold you have a leak.

Good luck and I hope you track it down!

Years ago we would get bad carbon buildup in autos. After a few tear-downs, we learned what it sounded like. We would hold the accelerator at about 1/2 or 2/3 throttle, and pour a small coke bottle (8 ounces?) of WATER through the carb. When the cold water hit the hot pistons, the carbon would turn loose. Never busted a piston or caused any other damage. Would be hard to do this to a bike though, lmao.

IF it is still under warranty (and it certainly ought to be) then make them eat it. You pay enough for the HD, it ought to be pretty much flawless for a lot longer than you have had it.

Good luck. RD

Its more rich all of the time, not just at specific speeds.

Err, nope, that's not how these work. They are fitted between the O2 sensors and the ECU, they make the reading from the sensor appear lean and the ECU compensates accordingly. However, when the throttle is open more than 90% and/or the RPM is more than 5000 (on the stock map anyway) then the bike is in open-loop and the readings from the O2 sensors are ignored and the Xied will do nothing.

Dude....chill out!! You want help here, lower your bark! It's a problem for the dealer. Don't do a download. Get a tuner of your choice and get the bike dynoed. They are set VERY LEAN from the factory. If your not a F#%#ing moron, you would have already taken it back to them instead of boohoo'n about you doin the first service and they don't like doin warranty work. You don;t have to spend $1,500.00 to fix this issue, but you will have to spend some $$

I tried sunoco, mobil, Hess, and sunoco with sea foam for 3 tankfuls. Nothing helps the problem. I did my 1k service myself using conventional.

Now the "solutions" I read about were taking timing out with some sort of tuner along with an A/C and pipes and a good tune. One RK guy did a full teardown and removed all carbon in the engine and in that thread one poster said to vent the breathers to atmo. Some say its "normal". sSome say get colder plugs.... Maybe I'm missing something obvious but im not going to spend $1500 yo maybe fix a problem i shouldnt have in the first place.

I will say that I highly doubt lugging caused this because I broke the bike in with my father riding along and i didnt baby it by any means.

I am already bracing for "search dummy" so it wont offend me lol.

If anyone that has had this problem and actually solved it could ster me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful.
I have the same issue with a detonation sound under load @ about 3000rpm with my 2010 Touring. I have a PCV installed. Im going to pull it off and see if the sound goes away.
