Dead battery question
like a dumbass i parked my bike last night and left the key on now the battery is dead.
will this effect the battery after i charge it or should it be replaced? i dont always want that "will it start" thought in the back of my mind.
the battery is 2 years old if that matters.
thanks,
jeff

That happen to a buddy on mine on his '09 SB, left the keys in it and totally killed the battery, he bought a charger for it and charged for 6 hours and nuthin'. He took it to the dealer and they threw it on their charger and right way it said it needed a charge. 4 hours later they called and said it's charged but doesn't have enough amps to start the bike. So, they replaced it. He left the keys in it for almost 30 hours.
Once a regular 'starting' type battery goes all the way down, I don't trust them anymore. They're too prone to shorting out with no warning to suit me.

Be prepared to have to buy a new battery though, it should be ok if you can get it take a full charge again, if not bin and buy new

I have an '07 street bob and I did that exact same thing. I had a tender on it and after 2 days of letting it "recover" it started and ran fine. I got 2 more starts and then if I didn't leave it on the tender it kept draining down to dead when the bike was parked.
I ended up buying a new battery and chalked that up to a lesson learned. Oh yeah, and don't forget to loctite your lead bolts on. I forgot with the new battery and the positive definitely backed out....another lesson learned.

The terminals aren't loctite'd. It's the bolts. Trust me, after you disconnect your battery enough, the stupid bolt starts to work their way out and there is nothing worse than having a brand new battery and it not getting charged because the bolt wiggled loose.
