building a custom fender - need electrical assistance..
So, here's the idea: My new fender will have a brake light as well as a cool led light bar which has moving lights and such... also, I will have a side mounted license plate which will have both white and red led's installed to illuminate the license plate.
Here's what I want: I want the white lights on the license plate frame & the cool led light strip on the rear fender to be illuminated in 'running mode'. this is simple enough... But here's the rub, when I hit the brakes, I want the whites on the license plate to turn off, and the reds to illuminate, and I want the cool led light strip on the rear fender to turn off and the brake lights on the rear fender to illuminate.
I have attached a pic (sorry my photoshop is on the fritz, had to use paint), that shows my current knowledge.. namely just splicing the white license plate lights and the cool led strip into the 'running' wire of the rear lights circuit, and splicing the red license plate lights and the rear fender brake lights into the 'brake activated' wire of the rear lights circuit.
Questions: Is this the right set-up or are the white license plate lights and the cool led strip going to stay on when I hit the brakes?
Do I need some type of relay or something to ensure that the white lights and cool led strip turn off when brakes are applied, and turn back on when they are released?
If so, what do I need and how do I wire it? all help is appreciated as this is my first real custom job on my bike.
Lastly, I would like to install a switch on my battery cover that will turn off JUST the cool LED thingy in case I get **** from any police officers. How would this link into my project.
I would really appreciate direction from anyone more skilled than I because this fender is so bad *** that it demands cool lights
