I have a Iron Butt Ride coming up and hadnt tested my windshields/lowers yet for more than just a run down the road. So I needed to go to St. Louis to get some detachable sideplates since they were on back order everywhere and my sissy bar and rack will be here tomorrow. 210 mile round trip on the interstate seemed like a good test.
Review
60 to 65 no buffeting
65 to 75 minimal buffeting but nothing that is to annoying.
75 to 85 buffeting actually seemed to be a little less.
All in all I am happy with it and think I will actually keep this for trips. It was nice to be able to hit the interstate on a hot day and not need my full face helmet.
Still no desire to have the shield on all the time but it will get used a few times a year.
Hit a little rain on the way back home and of course no rain suit since I needed the room in the bag for the sideplates.
how high do you have your shield placed on the forks? I notice with mine that the higher up I go the less buffeting, but then I'm looking through the shield, which i don't really care for. Also, I have a problem with the relocation of the breeze pushing my jacket into my chin. Bike looks good from what I can tell in that pic
The shield is right were i look over it most the time but depending on how i sit I am looking it through it some times.
I cant lower it any more because my lowers are mounted above the lower tree. Turn signals are below and prevent me from mounting the lowers there. It will only be on a few times a year so not willing to move my signals. I like them were they are.
Initial Plan is to run around Missouri. We have a couple back up plans in case time gets tight. We didnt just want to run down the interstate 500 miles and back.
Shield is a mixture
Its the Harley quick detach hardware with a 17 inch Memphis shades replacement screen. Lowers are Memphis shades as well.
Thanks for sharing. Be looking forward to hearing about your IB and how it went. It'd be great to know what gear you took and what gear you wish you'd taken.
