Has anyone tried the hjc is-2 half helmet? I have a bell drifter now and it always feels like the wind wants to rip my head off. The is-2 looks like a nice helmet and has a flip down shield.
I haven't tried that. . . I have a Drifter and yeah, it's not the most comfortable in high wind and speed. Mainly use it for passengers. I bought two carbon fiber HD helmets, a full face and a half helmet. Both were two expensive, but both are excellent helmets.
Haven't tried the hjc helmet either. Have an HD half helmet and unless I have the windshield on, my head feels like a kite when I get over 45 mph. Picked up a Vega fiberglass half helmet for $60 (half the price of the HD helmet) and have no problem with it even without the windshield at 75 mph. It fits close to my head, and I didn't put the visor on it.

My HD half is no issue unless the chin strap isn't tight enough. If it's too loose it feels like it's trying to lift off my noggin above 80mph. Anything 70mph or less is very comfortable. I'll be looking to get a windshield later this fall...maybe, but when it starts getting cold I'll have the FF on anyway.
Yeah, I have one. Here's a couple of my impressions.
I find at anything approaching highway speeds the HJC will move around and slip back on my head and try to rip it off if I don't take care to tighten the chin strap extremely tight. This took some getting used to for me, both in comfort and in habit. The procedure I use now it to push down hard with my left hand pressing on the top of it while pulling the strap tight. Comfort in this manor was more my getting accustomed to having a chin strap this tight all the time. Forget to do it and I can't get over 45MPH without helmet movement and the feeling of my head being ripped off. Otherwise it is fine as far as comfort goes, but...
I also find it to be a very noisy helmet. At most speeds the wind noise can be unbearable to the point I rarely use it without ear plugs. I'm thinking of modifying the ear holes in the chin strap to relieve this as I find holding my hand in this area will reduce the noise to an acceptable level. When I get up to New Hampshire and can ride helmet-less I need no plugs to ride in comfort. So, it has to have with something to do with the air flow around the strap causing this. Hope that helps, as with anything YMMV.
Everyone seems to have different head sizes and shapes. I can't wear HJC helmets period. I've tried several HJC 3/4 and half helmets and they seem to fit move oval shapes. My pumpkin is pretty round and the best half helmet for me is Fulmer. They have nice DOT helmets at reasonable price. Just try on and keep it on in the store for comfort. I've found that if the helmet fits correctly you don't have it raising off your head at speed.
