took the bike out for the first time in a while due to job and other stuff. noticed when going about 40-50 the handlebars wobble like its out of balance but i only have 4500 miles on it. i wouldnt think that it would out of balance already. any suggestions
Both previous posts are good to look at. If you haven't ridden in a while a tire may have developed a flat spot which should go away after some miles. If this is occurring you can prevent in the future by moving your bike around every few days and keeping the tires at recommended pressure.
Well, I had the same scary wobble and I was determined to fix it. I noticed it with less than a thousand miles on the bike and through the next thousand. I did a lot of research here and on line and talked in person with a few riders and service techs.
I decided to try the True-Track.
After it was installed, not only had that wobble gone away but it braked straighter, took off straiter, just in general handled more true and sure, reminding me more of my old BMW R90 in handling. AND on top of that, crosswinds created less problems for me as well. VERY happy that I installed the True-Track. I'd recommend it for your situation if you can swing it.
thanks for all the suggestions i check the psi and it was a little low but not to bad. i also took a look at the wheel weights. the rear still has the sticky weights on it but there are no weights on the front. i think im going to take the front wheel off and take it to get balanced. ill keep you posted.
Dont take it in for balancing unless it really needs it.
Jack the bike up, remove the front brake caliper, and give the wheel a spin. If its out of balance, the heavy spot will find its way to the bottom. If the balance is fine, the wheel will stop in a different spot every time you spin it. Besides, it will give you a chance to look for the flat spots or an "out of round" condition that JohnAE alluded to.
