I've seen a couple of members with the CrossBones air cleaner cover on their Street Bobs, I'm just wondering what all is needed to do this? Are you guys using the SE backing plate or what? Can you use everything, backing plate included, from the CB?
ANY help would be appreciated, thanks guys.
I'd send PM's but I can't find that option on here, maybe because of low post count? It's annoying because I can't open any attached files here either...
You do not need any special backplate. The "kit" you'll get from someone selling their entire crossbones AC unit will have everything you need. I bought mine from a guy on HDForums..... he was upgrading his AC and I got his OEM leftovers..... worked out great.
Thanks, now what if I just go with the cover Only? What are most people on here using for after market air cleaners on Fuel Injected Dynas with a 'round-style' cover over it?
Unless you already have an aftermarket (i.e., smaller than stock) air cleaner system, you'll need the Crossbones backplate in addition to the cover. So you can either buy the entire unit from whomever sells you the cover.... or go to Harley with the part number and order one.
No idea why you'd want the cover only. I got the entire assembly from a member here for like $30 bucks and it was unused I believe. I got the cover, filter, backplate, gasket, and breather bolts.
If you post in the wanted to buy forum, and ask for a complete Crossbones AC unit it'll all bolt right up. No TON of separate parts needed bud, just bolt it on and go!
Sounds good. When I said ton I meant if buying from the dealer - they had about 10 or so diff. part numbers they were going to have to check. I just told them to forget it.

Yup. Just check the year of the donor bike against the year of your bike to ensure that the throttle body size is the same. Don't know when it changed, sorry.
Otherwise, get a complete take off from someone on the Softail forum here and just bolt it up. Based on the parts manual, you need to replace the Dyna breather bolts with ones for the Crossbones but at least one guy here (might have been WydGlideBryan but I don't recall) used the Dyna ones with no issues.
