One thing I noticed was that the CC had a different reservoir design. The matting surfaces and gasket are different than the HD. Which is probably what helps it seal better.

I second, third, 5th, 10th whatever the above posts on over tightening it, that's the biggest issue, I posted some junk a while back on mine when I bought it, the stock black ones were bubbled, switched to chrome, and since then I stripped, primed and painted the stock ones to go back on at some point. Here's another tidbid I would add personally, hd says fill the resevoir to within 1/4 to 1/8 from the top of the resevoir, personally I go to 1/4 from top, not quite as much fluid, and yea my little window is not black, so one could argue, damn, you ain't gotta enough fluid in there. Been working fine for me for the last two years. I check it every so often and inspect the lines/mc/calipers for any wetness, if none found, I know the little window being not black is still okay. I'm not sayin, I'm just saying, lol.

Harley's design looks like it should leak at the "eye".

Those screws only need 8 in. lbs torque, my friend that's not much at all. I learned that by pulling the cover, dry all surfaces, including the gasket, then reassemble and tighten till the gasket just bulges usually solves the problem. Oh yea, I also cover the tank when doing this, just in case.

Good info re: torque, thanks. Couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong - something leaks, my first thought is to tighten it..

Same problem on an 08 Street Bob. Front and rear master cylinder. My discovery on the front is the screws loosen up. Also the cover will fit on two ways, look at it before you take it off and make sure the screw with the wide flat area around it is put back the same way. I used blue lock tight on it. Several posters have said it, if the gasket starts to bulge you tightened it much.

They need to redesign, seems to be a common problem.
