I replace the fob batteries every year in February. It's right in the middle of the worst weather for riding and helps me remember and keeps the batteries fresh.
Well after reading all of the posts in this thread I don't feel quite as bad as I did earlier today. I have had my bike since late 06, I have never changed the batteries in my two fobs and I had never had a problem. I have my fob on a key chain with my house key and bike key. With my 07 FXSTC I unlock the ignition and fork lock, then the keys go in my pocket. Today after I got gas the bike wouldn't start back up. I figured it was the battery in the fob (almost six years old). I call the wife and ask her to pick me up a battery. I put it in the fob and it still won't start. ****. I check everything, still no go. Go home to get my truck, trailer, and extra fob. Get back to my bike, and **** the bike starts right up. Damn. Take everything back home and pull the bike into the garage. I try to start it up again and it won't start again. I am starting to blame it on the dealer that installed new tires on my bike last weekend, then it's like bulb comes on in my tiny brain and I put the bike in neutral (still in first from when I pulled it into the garage). It starts fine. Another bulb goes off in my head, replaced battery was upside down. No I don't remember my code and I didn't write it on the card. I will retrieve the code and write it on the card now. **** happens and most of the time I caused it.
Just purchased a 2004 Low Rider used from a buddy of mine. He also bought the low rider used. No manual and up til now no problem. Rode to work this morning just fine. Got ready to leave work, bike won't start. Key is lit in speedo case. Oh, great. The alarm is activated. I try to start the bike several times until I'm hot, sweaty and pissed. Call wife to come get me. I've read on my iphone about changing the battery in the fob. Get one and install it. No help. Go home to stew about and try to find more info about what to do if you don't have the manual with the cards. My question(s) are:
1. Can I use a procedure to zero out the unknown pin and install my own pin?
2. Can I jumper a wire to bypass the feature?
3. Should I just pay the stealer to pick it up and re-program the system?
Any help would be appreciated. Not a novice rider, just a novice rider to H-D with a security system.

P.S. what does pushing the button on the fob accomplish? Does it activate the alarm?

I just went thru the exact situation you described (well, except I didn't need to call for spare keys or trailer it) with my Harley. After replacing the battery it still won't start...and no I don't have manual disarm pin. Tried other fob (the one I never use) and it also doesn't work. Got on computer to see if I saved pin somewhere (of course not!), or look for help bypassing the alarm, and this was the first Google result I read. Sure enough, I put the batteries in upside down. Fixed that and bike started right up.
I know about the +/-, but didn't bother to look. Seemed logical that the battery would go in so text on the battery (brand/model #, etc) was face up and thus readable. Noooooo...it's face down! Guess the Chinese assume no one would actually want to read the text? Foolish (on my, and the Chinese) part, but whatever..it happens. ;-)
