I have an '09 FXDL with SE Heavy Breather, Thunder headers (heat wrap \ no heat shields) and a PCV with a preprogrammed map from Fuel Moto.
My bike sat for most of July - I was out of town with Business and family vacations. Things have settled down and I have been able to put some miles on. I've noticed within the past few weeks my bike seems to be throwing off alot of heat especially off the pipes....more than I ever remember.
I am thinking of taking it in to the dealer for a good once over, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or thoughts.
it is August! Your fuel is old too. I have had the worst weather here in Fl. and have barely rode my bike this summer too. run through your current tank and then see how things feel after the next tank of gas is in there. old untreated gas wont burn the same and will end up burning a little lean I believe(hence the heat). My bike does the same thing with month old gas, the next tank the bike seems cooler.

This is especially true of Ethanol blends, even the 10% crap. But again, it is August.

Yep, that was my initial thought too...old gas. But I am on my 3rd fresh tank and the pipes and engine are still blazing hot. Anyway my PCV could have gone bad and is no longer regulating the air\gas?

yeah the gas could have cause a dirty sensor or something so things are not reading properly... run some seafoam in the next tank of gas and it will clean up everything in your fuel system. If this does not work, look to other possibilities and don't forget...
It's August and the bike will just flat out run hotter this time of year(northern hemisphere).
When buying the seafoam get some marine grade sta-bil for your fuel too(both are found at discount auto or other auto parts stores). Use it in every tank to keep the fuel from going bad. Half and ounce of sta-bil per tank will keep the gas good and stop any problems with bad gas. When storing, use twice as much. You could also take a look at the plugs... also, are you getting any detonation? Are you wearing lighter clothing that allows you to feel the heat off the bike more?
you need to look at all factors and really it could be that it is just plain hotter outside than a month ago and you flat out feel the heat of the bike more than back in June.
I rode yesterday...the temp was 110 down here. My bike was running hot but I know it was due to the outside temp. I bet it just because it Aug and its hot out there.
I have been using Amsoil since it's first oil change. I also used Startron, which is a fuel stabilizer. It states that it cures Ethanol (E-10) problems, stabilizes gasoline and rejuvenates old fuel.
My plan is to ride it and take it in to the dealer on Thursday.
PCV fuel map can be adjusted, mine ran hot too, dealer would not touch it stock. Bought PCV runs much cooler now, ran to Florida 1500 miles was great at 80 MPH. Uses more fuel - what the heck
