I've been riding this bike since 2000 and never even thought about the stickers. Now, thanks to this thread, I suppose I should peel em off. Just don't want to damage the paint since they've been on for so many years. Think they'll come off clean?
I pulled the stickers off my GFs 87 FXLR using a hair dryer and had no problems so you should be fine.

Borrowed the wife's hair dryer and they pelled off very easily.
Thanks guys!
However, the reflectors were another story. Used the hair dryer and some dental floss. The floss kept snapping so in the end I went at em with some needle nose pliers. Tried to be very careful but still managed to scratch off some of the fork clear coat. Most people will never notice it, but I do! So, looks like I have another job lined up: remove the clear coat with paint stripper and then polish the fork lowers. A typical 30 minute job that is turning into a weekend job!!!!
