Soon to be an owner, but I can't decide what bike. I went to a local HD dealer and sat on and compared a FXDC and an FXDWG and really can't seem to decide on what to get. My inner voice says that I like the forward controls, rear fender and lights, and forward rake of the Wide Glide. But the Custom is pretty damn nice too. And I could just get forward controls for it. I like the black on the WG, but would not object at all to the chrome on the custom. The front rake is about the only big difference between the 2.
I would get the bike in vivid black and probably change the pipes and headlight this winter.
Can anyone give me a compelling reason to get the Custom over the Wide Glide? If not then the FXDWG will be in my garage in 2 weeks!
If the 2K price difference isn't enough, then nothing anyone here can say will suffice. Identical powertrain, for example. Get what YOU want. If you are relying on the advice of strangers on the internet, why not let the salesman decide?
Just my opinion but the wide glide is better looking. Since I was buying used and never found a wide glide I ended up with my deuce softail. Had only driven a few Harley but after owing a couple metric I liked the balanced engine of the Softail. But I always like the wide glide look. Biggest think if you stay around town tend to keep it lighter. A big cruiser to me is less fun around town compared to my Deuce or a Wide Glide. Depends on your setup were you park it is a factor. Wide Glides or Softail Custom is one of the best looking bar bikes. Sorry while composing you posted. With the trips I would rethink what I was buying. Make sure you get the stuff to carry what you need and how that is going to look to you after it changes the look of the bike. I drive one-up and I have a bag that attaches to my d-rings that rides on the rear seat. Also have the rear rack but unless I travel I use the sissy pad for my helmet and a lock replace the rack
