I have always been told that once you use a particular brand of oil, you should stick with that brand of oil. Constantly switching between brands (ex: buying whatever is on sale that month) is not good as each brand has a slightly different chemical makeup. I know you can't switch back and forth between conventional and synthetic.
Is this still true? What about with synthetic brands?
Every thing I've heard is you should not mix weights or use automotive oil with friction modifiers(energy conserving=bad) dino to synthetic mixing is compatible. Changing brands is fine.
You can switch back from synth oil, just think -- they make syn/dino blends. It was just a hoax to get people to keep buying syn oils. I have however switched to amsoil in all three holes and I'm sticking to that! And i wouldn't go cheap on any oil wether it be for motorcycle, car, truck, or heavy machines.
ill use whatever my wallet allows me to use at the time of an oil change....i started with redline and have since started to use mobil1 vtwin....but ill always use a fully synthetic oil
You can switch brands or switch back and forth from dino and synth with no troubles.
As far as brands goes, my old man has been high mile commuter for 36 years. He buys whatever brand oil is on sale and changes it no sooner than about 7k miles. He runs all of his cars 200k miles or so before he gets rid of them. He's never had an oil burner or a smoker.
You can switch it up but when your engine quits at 30,000 miles or 300,000 miles you can talk to the oil brand that you use. They could buy your engine from you to inspect it. I have herd of this.
I only buy what is on sale and only synthetics. All of today's oils readily mix with no issues. Changing oil frequently is what keeps your bike in good working order.
