Oh, I couldn't agree more with you guys. But if I was overgeneralizing (and I am) I would have guessed the Dyna guys would be the first guys to cut up their bikes with big forks...but as you can see, thats the total opposite. Like mentioned about the Sportster guys, I see plenty of extended forks on them. Yeah, mostly those silly chopper "kits", but long none the less. I guess in the end, who cares, right. Just something I was wondering about since I'm as guilty as charged about short forks on my bike. I had every opportunity to go long, and I didn't.
Times change and styles change. The classic chopper with an extended Girder or Springer front end was the look that was in style at the time. Thirty years from now riders will look back at this time period and say, Where have all those blacked out Dynas gone? Can you believe that they actually ran on roadways and used wheels?
Here is my chop took me 6 months to build not a dyna I got my Fat bob that I am working on now but still love the long high tank chops what do you think she was a pita to build since I never built a bike before but she made iron works mag...
Been toying with adding a longer springer to my WG.....my dealer and I were working on a springer front end for my 04 dyna about a 6 months before the FB came out.....killed the idea quick, if i could buy it, why build one....

Hey guy, don't know what your age is (I'm 60) but I remember the 70's, when I got out of the Army I had Bonneville chop with 8" extended tubes. Then later put it all in a raked, rigid frame and 16" over springer. Looked nice but rode rough. Sold it all later and started raising a family.
Like you and everyone said (or got a big kick out of ) times change for the younger guys. And as for the older ones, I haven't got to the point where I want a road king bagger yet. I ride a used Dyna, love it and have no desire anymore to chop it or extend it etc. Would have bought new if I could have afforded it. But yes I was there during the times you remember.
Although it might not be too over-the-top ... I'd say man4mopar's '06 Wide Glide with an aftermarket springer front end comes pretty close to a 'Dyna chopper' ...
I'm not that big of a fan of long fork choppers, but I think man4mopar did a great job with his bike ....

Here is mine that I built 3 yrs. ago. Rolling Thunder "Fat ***" Dyna frame, with a "Sugar Bear" 18" over springer. With the Dyna rubber mounting system the 124" is as smooth as glass at 75. The Arnott air ride "Aldon" shocks and springer make it as smooth as my bagger. Only down fall is I made the tank only 3 1/2 gals so I have to stop for gas way before I want to.
