I am wanting to get a chrome console for my 07 Street Bob as the flat black isn't going to match my new paint scheme. I have checked the obvious places (Harley dealer, various aftermarket companies, etc) and this seems to be one of the only Harley's you can't get a chrome console for. Does anyone do a core swap with these or can someone suggest a place near SC to get the factory one chromed? I am having it smoothed and powder coated gloss black for now but I think I will end up wanting chrome. Thanks in advance!
You might consider swapping out for the current Wide Glide console ... it is chrome and would allow you to move the switch .... forum member bberck did a thread on the subject within the last 6 months I think ... with a lot of good gouge ....
I bought a new stock Street Bob console, sent it to Classic Components, 3420 W Fordham Ave, Santa Ana Ca 92704, phone # 888-327-4189, they polished it smooth and chrome plated it for about $75.00 plus shipping. They did a nice job and I would not hesitate to use them again. Total turn around time from my door to their door back to my door was 4 weeks. I installed it on my 07 Lowrider, after removing my tach. It really changed the look of my scooter.
If the tank console is plastic then powder coating is out (400 degree bake process). I've got a buddy who sprays chrome (silver) over most any surface. He does hot rod and antique car parts. The silver is clear coated and can be polished to a mirror finish. The clear coat can be tinted to look like nickel plating. Don't know what he'd charge to "chrome" your console. If interested I've got his personal cell phone number.
I paid $125, but didn't need to ship it back and forth...was able to drive it out to the guy. I like the fact that if there is a problem, I can just go and talk to somebody instead of playing phone tag and shipping, etc.
I love the console in chrome and would just go that way now if I were you:
The $75 deal sounds great. I had mine done locally for $125 and about 3 weeks down time. If your seasons are anything like Chicago's I would just send them yours and wait the 4 weeks. By the way they look great in chrome.
