I tore down my 09' Street Bob and got some powder coating done. I chose not to change anything but the oil in the forks at this time but I am confused about something.
The diagram in the link listed above is the same as the one in my service manuel. My forks do not match the diagram. I do not seem to have #17 (collar spring) and I DO have a long spacer between #16 (the washer on top of the spring) and #31 (the cap bolt) The spacer is just a thin wall piece of steel pipe approx 11' long.
I can not find any diagram that reflects the parts my forks contain. I am about to re-assemble the forks and want to know if this is correct or what? I bought the bike new and the forks have never been touched prior to this.
The way the diagram is drawn, it shows the spacer going in before the "spring, rebound" or 'top-out spring' ... that is incorrect ... I am of the opinion that the correct assembly sequence is the spacer goes in last before the top bolt ....
I replaced my stock springs with Race Tech springs and the spacer goes on top in the reassembly instructions ....
