Default Spark Plug Question

I tried the search option first but it wouldn't work for me.

What kind of spark plugs do you guys like the best ? I guess the standard HD plug for your bike is good enough but you never really know if you dont try something different. I was going to change my plugs on my 09 Dyna FXD and I was wondering what other guys like.

I changed my spark plugs yesterday on my 08 FXD.

At the parts counter at my dealer there was a tech buying parts for his own bike. I asked him if the "Gold" "Platinum" or "SE" plugs were any better or worth the extra $$$. He said "don't waste your money on those". "Just run the stock 6R12s and you'll be fine".

I took his advice.

A lot of good information here

http://www.harleyhelp.com/sparkplg.html

I've been using NGK's and like them.

Just a word of caution...

All the late model BTs use an ion-sensing system for knock detection. This consists of measuring changes in resistance of the circuit through the spark plugs. Alter this circuit by switching to non-stock plugs and you can mess this up; either disabling the anti-knock altogether or possibly risk having your ignition permanently retarded.

Oh - and most expensive spark plugs are snake oil that gear-heads have been falling for for years and will make zero difference to how a Harley engine runs.

I fitted the new SE plugs with the mushroom head insulator (less fouling ?).
# 32186-10 (for high comp) No complaints, not sure they are worth the extra,
but they would prob' last a bit longer.

I used Nology silver plugs on my XL1200C and after 10,000 miles they looked brand new. Amazing I thought.
However I did have this high idle problem at times mostly when I would come down from higher elevations and it would run high idle till I just let it calm down at a stop.
After gettIng a code I temporary rid the problem by cleaning my crankcase position sensor but after a couple weeks it would return.
I traded in the bike with 18.000 fast and furious miles.
I may stay with the stock plugs this time.
