I just got a new StreetBob and I'm having trouble with the mini apes. I'm pretty small, and thought mid controls and mini apes would be good. However, I can't get used to the bars. I've always been complimented on my riding ability but I'm a total klutz in turns with these effin' apes! I like the WideGlide position better (which I used to have), but it was difficult on my legs on long rides. Anyone know how to figure out the best riding position for an individual?
Need help making this bike a better fit. I'm thinking bars could be a good way to get it right. Help!

Have you tried adjusting them, tilting them closer to you? If you're having trouble reaching how about some pull back risers? You will get used to the apes believe me. How about just geting some wide glide bars to put on it?
I also have a Street Bob and am around 5"8". I did not like the mini apes on longer rides as it made my arms tingle and numb.
For testing purposes I found a dirt cheap set of drag bars on Craigslist. 8 or 8.5" rise but fixed. Been on since July and I am pretty happy with the feel and look.
However I am going to purchase a set of 9.5 risers and drag bars. This way I can adjust the bars independently.
As for foot controls. If you are happy with the mids in general , why not get a set of highway bars and adjust them to your liking. I had one on a Night train for real long rides. I'm sure they are avail on ebay(if they make them for Dyna's) If not I know they can be fit to work.
I have forward controls and am pretty happy but on long trips any single position can wear on you. If the trip is long enough I even use the passenger pegs.

Which Wide Glide did you have? It takes a couple weeks of riding to get use to any new setup if it is much different. Give it time and take it slow. Nice thing about apes is the adjust-ability of them, no other bars give you as many possibilities, try them out. Push bars forward or pull them back to see what feels best.
I agree with the apes comments, tilting them back or forward just an inch or two can make all the differece in the world. You can also go to www.lonerindustries.com and order a set of the 1" or 2" risers they have that are designed for the Street Bob's, I have the 1" and they brought the bars a little closer also.
bought a used superglide with the mini apes, have taken them off and put on a set of touring bars.lot more comfortable for me, brought my hands down and back. you could even put the reduced reach bars from a heritage on if you wanted to.depends on how far back you want your hands.everyone is different.
