My 02 Wide Glide makes a chirping sound when i cross bridges with cement barriers can be very annoying.Any ideas what might cause this.I was thinking baffles or rubber between carb and intake???
You mention this only happens when crossing bridges with cement barriers. The answers above mentioning probable causes, so far, just talk about chirping in general.
Well, I noticed my Dodge diesel makes some similar noise when driving over bridges and it sure ain't a Harley. I can't tell you what causes that sudden change in sound, but it has something to do with the accoustics of that particular type of structure or the spacing of them. Other rigs of mine did it to a certain degree, but the ones with the loudest exhausts were the ones that I really noticed.
I am guessing that your bike makes the chirping noise all the time. But to piggyback on what HemiOrange is alluding to, I think the design of the barriers causes the sound to bounce back so that you hear it clearly. I've had the same type of experience when the brakes on my truck were squealing. Any time I drove by a barrier or solid railing, I would hear the sound and as soon as I passed by the barrier, the sound would go away. I may be all wet, but it's something to consider... Good luck tracking it down...
I understand you have V&H. What i was gettin at was the fact that due to some baffle's design they will cause that particular chirp to bounce back and become heard. If you listen real carefully to almost any baffled pipe you will be able to hear a slight chirp. Some people can hear it others cant. The older you get the fewer frequencies you can hear.
