I am looking at doing a mod to the bike requiring going back to mid shifting from froward control setup.
To do this it is looking like I am going to have to take the Primary apart to put the stock shift Lever (part# 34621-06) back in. Is it posible to go to a 2 piece shift lever setup (Inner Shifter Lever and shift lever shaft)? This would help on not having to disassemble the primary.
You might be lucky and have the shifter sitting behind the inner primary, but chances are no, you will have to remove the inner primary to install the shifter shaft, as there are no split shafts available.
Doing the same thing on my 11 FatBob, right side done no problem except couldnt use stock exhaust. Left side, the shaft goes thru the inner and outer primary covers, diff p/ns due to the holes.
I'm actually doing a floorboard setup with an heal/toe shift setup from eglidegoodies but it requires an mid shift. Nope, no shaft. I did the hacksaw method when I moved from mids to forwards.

Reason: add more info.
I entertained the idea of going to mid-controls for a while, but having a rented Street Glide for 9 weeks cured me. Didn't like the floorboards, didn't like the position, and was SO relieved to slip my feet back onto my forward pegs once I got my Roberto Gordo back. I really don't think they would make a significant handling impact at least with my riding style, the reason I was going to originally change.
