hey guys. I need some help.... I got a 2000 Dyna and wrecked her last year at the end of the year. Instantly after wrecking her, she wouldn't start. Just, click,click,click... Like the battery was dead. I got her all fixed up and back in order but still, click,click,click.. So I figured I ruined the battery. Got a new one and put it in and she jumped right off. Ran good yesterday for about 80 miles and 10 starts. You got it. Back to click, click, click.. I just don't get it. Once I jump it and get it running, she's runs like a champ. but if you shut it off, she just won't start. The headlight stays lit really good while running and all blinkers and all work good. Just can't get a straight answer out of Harley Davidson about the problem. Was hoping someone in here could help before I have to go foot a big bill on finding out the problem. I would appreciate any help I can get as the wallet can't handle another big hit, and it's been too nice out to not be riding instead of scratchin my nuts...... Thanks.......
Maybe a bad starter or starter solonoid. Check all of the battery connections at the battery as well as the starter and frame. Verify the charging system is working properly. It could be a bad regulator also. It is possible that you have an electrical short that is draining the battery as well.
Could be the connection at the front of the primary for the regulator, this is the plug right beside the oil filter, could have come loose after the accident
Had a similar problem, bike would start, or when it couldn't start could be jump started....but then wouldn't start again after stopping.....ended up being the voltage regulater and the stator.....the stator was definitely fried.
I was going through and draining my batteries, I had even tried a new one, I have a 99 wide glide, and it ended up being that the regulator had been fried and in turn fried the stator if I remember right, or the other way around.
