I installed the HD cooler on my '06 Low Rider. The plumbing is a little tight and other installation specifics have been covered in other threads, do a "search". I think it is a worthwhile addition if ambient temperatures are in the 90's. I found that on mornings when it is 75, the oil doesn't get warm enough on my 20 mile urban traffic commute to open the thermostat. On hot summer afternoon rides home with heavier traffic and hitting more stop lights, the cooler works. I kept the instructions and will be glad to send you a copy if you buy the cooler.

gbm hit both important points that i know about. I was talked out of it by my dealer due to my normal riding conditions, highway and Missouri temps. Since i don't have tons of stop and go (don't live or rider in any big cities much) and the weather normally isn't all the hot here (not above 90 much) it was not worth it even with the 95in upgrade. In fact the weather was mild to cool enough to worry about it slowing down the engine warming process. I always like it when the dealer talks me out of spending money.

well thats why the thermostat is for i bought it and think its a great addon if i dont need it then the thermostat will not open anytime u can keep oil at a stable temp is good on an air cooled engine i live in Florida and it gets over 95 at times i have seen peoples bikes shut off due to heat issues i can get the cooler for 125 i think thats a steal for extra insurance on them hot days

I installed one at 200 miles, and have put 20,000 plus miles on it. It works great. I used an infrared gun. (calibrated) My oil runs around 220 to 230 on a 96 degree day. Before the cooler it ran about 250 to 275.

Where does the cooler mount??? i have my tool bag mounted to the frame below the voltage regulator i'm assuming it would go there and i would have to sacrifice my bag. My bike rarely sees 80+ temperatures anyways. Probably half of the 8,300 miles i have is at night, and %25 is during the day in 70 degrees or less and the other %25 is in 80-100 degree temps but half of that hot weather riding is on the freeway, so the bike stays cool.

The HD cooler mounts right where you have your bag. You are correct to surmise that most of the time the bag is doing you more good. Aftermarket Jag coolers which appear to be the same as the HD cooler only in different sizes could mount any number of places and are available with the thermostat adapter.
