There's a discussion going on over at the new Classic Evo forum about base gasket leaks and how to cure them. I posted a simple fix for this common problem and thought I'd share it with my buds over here also:
Go to the automotive store and pick up some Permatex flowable silicone windshield & glass sealer. The # on my tube is 65AR. Clean and dry surfaces to be sealed, apply glass sealer onto leak source, remove excess, let cure for 24 hours.
I used this product/method on my '91 FXRP and had no leaks after. Supposedly the glass sealer seeps it's way into the effected area sealing from the outside all the way to the inside and because it's silicone it can withstand the temperature of the motor.
Your welcome. I am kind of surprised there are no other responses to this thread? Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I think most peoples bikes in this area are too new to have to worry about having a leak.

The newer bikes (twin cams) use an o ring to seal that area instead of that leaky paper
gasket that the evo's had all the problems with.

You put silicone on your cylinder base gaskets?
Yes Blueglide, apply the windshield silicone to the seam, you don't have to gob it on, just apply it sparingly. This stuff works great because it seeps into the area providing a seal inistead of just covering the leak like normal silicone does. It is virtually invisible because it's clear and you don't need much to make a good seal.
Rudedog if that works I'm gonna be a real happy man. My bike runs absolutely perfect. It's a shame to have to tear it down for this little pesky leak. Cause you know if you tear it down your gonna do some extra stuff while in there. I'm going to give it a try this weekend.
