Default Front End Dissasembly

Been thinking about what I want to do to my bike next. Its a 08 Street Bob that ive had now since mid-april. I definitely want the lower fork tubes and the triple trees to be black. How big of a process is it to disassemble those items for powder or paint? I am quite intimidated by it, but admittedly dont know what all it would entail. I havent yet found a good price on a service manual for my 08.

I should mention, i have decent mechanical skills, on my sportster i did the following myself: Forward Controls install, Burly Slammers, Screamin Eagle Air Filter, 12" Apes, Carburetor removal and rejet, etc.

you should buy the service manual, its more valuable then powder coating the front end.

IMO if you have installed apes before, this project shouldn't be too hard for you. I think progressive has a drop in lowering spring kit that's very simple. Good Luck.

For sure, i had one for my sportster and it was invaluable. Just havent found a 08 at a good price yet, but havent absolutely needed it yet.

It might be cheaper to buy the Harley Black Triple trees and find some fat bob lowers on Ebay.

it's not all that difficult, the service manual pretty much walks you through it all. the cost to powder it will be far more cost effective than buying new black parts (unless you go used I suppose).

Coating the trees should only run about $50 or so, putting on FB lowers will get you the black but also fender bosses that dont line up with the fender and unused brake caliper mounts - which might not be a bad thing if plans for dual discs are in the future. Coating the tubes should be fairly cheap also but some are just stripping, sanding and painting in place - with the right paint that is a good option.
