Question Forego the scheduled maintenance and do it myself?

I tried searching for the answer in my manuals and on the threads first but have not found my answer so I'll ask you guys... I'm coming up on the 5K scheduled maintenance and $400 leads me to question if I should just put my moderate hands on abilities to work. My biggest concern is that if doing it myself would void the warranty or esp coverage. That $400 could go a long way like changing over to full syns and a few other upgrades I've had in mind with plenty of coin left over!

keep all the reciepts and they can NOT void your warranty.

If you can follow the instructions in the manual and turn a wrench, you'll have no problem. Whatever tools you have to buy will pay for themselves many times over.

+1! if you can get your hands on the service/technical maunual (whatever you wish to call it) then you can do just about any maintenance task you need to do. the manual breaks everything down barney-style.

I'm doing all my own maintenance. If warranty is a concern, then every time you do a service, put the money you saved in a savings account, not to be touched unless something breaks on the bike.

At the end of your warranty, see how much money you've saved. Do that with everything, appliances, home repairs, and everything else that offers you an "extended warranty". Even put the cost of that "extended warranty" into the savings account. 9 times out of 10 you'll find that the cost of the extended warranties will more than pay for all of your repairs on everything you own, even if you have to pay someone to fix something for you.

reluctantly i paid for the 5k $ervice.

Sounds like I need to get my hands on a manual, I have plenty of tools.

And a manila folder to hold receipts sounds cheaper than paying $200 in laybor for some Harley tech to do it.

I just scored a service manual for my bike on Ebay for 40 bucks + free shipping. I'm already saving money.
