Hey all, I have been dying to replace my stock headlight on my 98 FXD, obvoiusly it is a top mounted light with the light visor and the speed on top of that. My indy dealer said there is no real replacement lights for the top mount version, and I would either have to get some new trees or change out the whole front end in order to put on a new light. That is something I will consider, but I thought I had seen a few other superglides with a top mount custom light.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this or seen lights that could replace my lame stock, I was thinking a bullet type although not sure how that would look with the visor. Thanks.
I found the below headlight from Headwinds that looks like the correct top mount light for dyna's. I was wondering if anyone has this light or something similar and what your thoughts were. It definately looks a thousand times better then the boring stock, I just wonder how it would look mounted with the headlight visor.
Its also very pricey, shows on their website retailing for $ 392!!! ouch.
You can do the headwinds if you want to, but I suggest you drill a hole in the bottom tree and mount a standard headlight in there. Its a real common mod for sportys.

+1 but with a couple of tips for changing it to a bottom mount. I had the same issue on my '02 and once you take off the eybrow visor, it leaves you with a top tree that has a concave front with wires running in front of the tree and behind where the light was mounted. There is a piece from headwinds that is essentially a chromed piece of corner angle which mounts to the holes on top of the tree and covers the front of the tree eliminating the goofy look. I had to cut a half circle out of this piece to mirror the half circle of the tree, allowing the wires to run between the top tree and the cover.

Thanks Maryland Blackout regarding the bottom mount and the problem with the eyebrow visor. I had the same thought about the top tree once you take the visor off. Could have you left the visor on even once you move the light to the bottom mount , to eliviate the problem of the concave look and keep the wires somewhat hidden or would that just look ridiculous with the eybrow still in place and the bottom mount bullet type headlight? Do you remember the pn in headwinds for the piece you describe?
