Default Adjusting the throttle / idle cables

Hi,

So I've changed the grips but can not seem to get the adjustments of the throttle and idle cables perfect (may be I'm a little too **** but I wan't it perfect). I get what I think is too much freeplay in the throttle grip when I follow the manual.

Do you have some tricks up your sleeve to get them adjusted correctly? Please share!

I have followed these steps:
1. Full throttle, adjust throttle cable until the "butterfly" touches the stop. Then a half to a full more turn. The idle cable is now loosened fully and I got a lot of freeplay in the grip.
2. Steering fully to the right. Starting to adjust the idle cable but I can not turn it more than almost nothing until the grip gets "stuck" and do not snap back fully to idle.

So I am in the zone where I either have too much freeplay in the grip or that the grip won't snap back fully and easygoing when the handlebar is at it's most to the right.

I can not be certain that the stock throttle grip originally snapped back fully when steered to the right, this is of course something I should have checked beforehand but it is too late. I am certain that it was less freeplay in the idle position though.

Please post your advice on what to do or how much I should put into this. I really want it right and appreciate every advice.

Default Cables

I just adjusted mine until there was no slack in the cable ( almost all the way out on the throttle side). It didn't make any difference what position the bars were in or what the book says.
I would make sure the cables are well lubed, unless the are teflon lined.

Mine sticks when the front wheel is locked to the right, no matter what I do. No worries. As long as it opens and closes fully, I'm happy with it. Heck, the only time I need full throttle is when calibrating the throttle position in the tuning module.

Thread starter here,

According to this guide:
https://www.hdforums.com/parts-and-a...tle-cables.php

It says:
#5 "Adjust throttle cable closest to the tank of motorcycle all the way out until the butterfly intake manifold is level (horizontal), rather than straight up."

Is that a typo or is not the cable closest to the tank the idle cable? Can you do this the other way around and adjust the idle first or is that just a typo in the guide?

I changed out my grips but just left everything alone after the install and it was just fine. Just pulled old ones off put the throttle cables just as they were on the stock grips and I was good to go. I have a little play in mine which I believe is completely normal if you want to get rid of the minor play just before you turn the throttle just tighten the spindle under the throttle with your fingers untill desired slack is acheved. Note that this will also tighten the throttle itself, going to tight will make the throttle stick or hold. I think you turned this into more than it has to be, sorry to tell ya.

Are the cables seated properly in the throttle grip? Are the bent tube cable guides snapped in to the "lower housing"?

This is what I was going to suggest...have you lubed the cables? If not that might explain some of the extra slack at the grip.
