I'm liking the stock exhaust on my 2011 SuperGlide Custom, but I'm worried about it running hot. Actually it doesn't even feel as hot as my Road King with a Stage One done to it! Anyway, I'm about to take it in for the first service. Can they do a remap on a stock bike, and will it richen the fuel enough to make it cooler? Also, what do they usually charge for a remap?
Hey HD,
Look into the XEID's, they are a jumper wire that goes in between your 02 sensors and your computer. They are only 100 bucks, less then 15 minutes to install and you will see at least a 25 degree drop in temperature. It tricks the computer into running much richer. The harley download will not give you enough fuel, if any.
Check out nightrider.com for the XEID's and a lot of valuable information on why the bikes running so hot. Added bonus is that the bike has a lot more zip...even if you keep it completely stock. If you do want to add exhaust and intake later down the road, you will still be good to go.
You will see some improvement, not nearly what you probably want though. I recommend going the tuner route. I've found it to be a much better value than blowing $150 at the dealer for a minor if any upgrade with a remap.
Did the remap help your stock bike run cooler? Or could you tell any difference?
Hd in "my" opininon it was a waste of money. I didnt see any difference with anything.. I did it because i didnt know any better. Now that i do, I should of saved my money and just bought a tuner. Now that I have a tuner the stage 1 upgrade that was in my ECM is now gone. I have heard good things from these xieds that alot of people talk about. Cheaper than the download.
When my Street Bob was still under warranty it had popping problems in stock form. The dealer did a remap, no charge. No improvement, either.
If they won't do it for free I wouldn't do it. Spend the money on the XIEDs or a tuner instead.
I did the SERT, and slipons, with the SE Ventilator AC. Completely different bike! And it runs cooler.
I saw that Power Commander does make a map for the stock configuration. But if the cats are in the mufflers, I doubt they can add much fuel to the mixture.

Bike runs plenty cool with fuel enrichment, even with stock air cleaner and exhaust. I started by changing the air cleaner to a SE stage 1 and installing the PC-V tuner. Temperature difference was like night and day. Then I went with slip-ons, and things got a little better, even with the cat in the pipes.
Of course, getting rid of the cat in the pipes makes it a whole lot better!
If I were only looking to cool it down a bit, on a tight budget, I'd definitely go the Xied route. There's just no reason not to.
I'd have gone with the Xied's if I'd been aware of them first.
