The tint shops are saying no probably because they use a heat gun (hence why acrylic isnt a good option cause it melts alot easier than glass) to apply the window tint instead of the cold soap and water method or tint brand spray on solution because it takes more time and effort and is messier. There is no negative reaction between cold soap and water or Windex between an acrylic or plexi glass shield and sheets of tint film. If there was everyone with a shield would have to avoid washing it or using Windex on it.
The soap and water or brand solution when it dries acts as a mild bonding agent. I have done vinyl hood and fender decals and window tint on various surfaces using this method and its the most time consuming but holds the best when it sets properly.
