Anyone recommend a decent one that's not too expensive? Gonna repowder coat my wheels this winter and throw some new bearings in. Figure the Harley one would be overpriced.
Man we cna do your wheels i only charge $20 per wheel to remove and replace the bearings... you would pay over $50 for a decent bearing removal tool anyway
+1 to Powder Pro, I bought a set of pullers with slide hammer from Harbor Freight. 60$ if my memory serves me right. Granted I plan on doing my own work on all future bikes but for a one time deal I'd highly suggest going to Powder Pro

That is true in my case, but it does so much more then just assist in removing bearings
I weld a plate across inner race opening then use a simple long punch to drive it out. I know pretty redneck but works well. Oh and goes without saying but they are not usable after going that route.
oooh that happens allt he time! we have had countless inner races crack or shatter either prior to removal or durring removal, we do the same cut a small piece of flat stock weld that to the outter race and pop wiht a bar from the other side! WORKS!
Shouldn't be using a slide hammer removing bearings from an HD wheel. Maybe that's how inner races are being cracked. The specialty tool I'm looking for is the same one we used at MMI for the HD manufacturer training program. It's a long threaded bolt with different size push and pull plates to gently remove and install bearings. Thanks for the offer JRK but i do all the wrench turning on my bike.
Since there is a VT in the part number, I'd make sure it isn't made by V-Twin manufacturing. Although it's a different VT number on their site I'm not sure who Pit Posse gets that from. I tried to save a few bucks with the V-Twin version and stripped the main screw taking out a bearing. Now I have to use a bunch of washers to keep it from getting that far down. I should have spent the money on Jim's...
