Which rear tire is getting the most milage on 06 and newer Dyna models?
Also does anyone know which ME880 17" gets the most between the
160/70HB17 or the Reinforced 160/70VB17
I went with the 180 upgrade at my first tire change. I really like the look of the wider tire. Problem is, I'm only getting about 7000 miles out of a tire that costs about $400 to buy and get mounted. That comes down to $.05+ per mile. JUST FOR THE REAR TIRE!!!!!
I did some research and found that the only two manufacturers of the 180/60B17 size tire are Dunlop and Perrelli. Haven't tried the Perrelli yet, but I might. The trouble is that those that change the tires for me, both dealer and Indy, charge more than if you buy a tire from them which negates the savings. I know the obvious answer is to return to the smaller 170, but the 180 really looks good on the Dyna. Anyone else come up with a solution to this?
My 1st OEM dunlop k591 got 10,000 miles . my second one got 6200 ???
The Metzler 880 got 7000 miles. I'm half way through another Dunlop now but would like a better wearing tire next time around.
Both of my stock Dunlop rear tires- D402 I think- got right around 13,000 miles each. My rear Metzeler was just replaced with another of the same, sized 170 60 17 Radial. I think I got 11,000 out of that one. We'll see how long this new rear tire lasts. My front tire was also replaced with a Metzeler 100 90 19 after two front Dunlop tires in 37,400 miles.
11500k on the Mich.Just put on a 170 Metzler. My Indy said I won't get that many miles on the Metzler. If not then I will go back to the Mich. It handled just fine so milage counts.
I'm running the Perreli Night Dragons now. Have about 5k on them. 180 on the back. They stick awesome. I'd guesstimate I have about another 1 to 1.5 k on the back left.
Thanks Guys
Anybody know about the Metzler ME880 with the Reinforced VB rating?
I know its listed as having 9/32 of tread while the non-reinforced HB rated one has 10/32
Im thinking the reinforced one may have harder rubber. Anyone know
Your safety depends on the tires ability to grip the road, buy the best tire you can afford and never mind mileage. I would rather have a sticky, confidence inspiring tire that gave crappy mileage than a long lasting scary tire. The OEM Michelin rear did that at least once - freeway on ramp, light acceleration on wet pavement - lots of tar strips mind you but still.
