I'm getting pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Wimmer Velocity Stack for my '10 FXDWG. I have heard a couple people saying a velocity stack on an EFI bike might not be a good idea, but I have been unable to find any definitive reason why that would be the case. So what do people think? Can a velocity stack work reliably on a EFI bike?
Velocity stacks are great for making good power ... however, they are good for the track because they'll allow dirt and debris in if used in normal riding conditions ... motor life could be seriously compromised ...
Once you add a filter to it, I think it will affect the characteristics of the funnel ...
I really dig them ... but, personally, ruled out due to impracticality ...

I understand Wimmer intake products are well engineered and highly regarded as impacting performance favorably ...

What are the other performance mods to your motor ...?
+1 Velocity stacks look very cool and are great if you're using the bike on the track. For street use, I think you're asking for trouble.

They look cool but again filtering ability. My k&n on my mustang showed dangerous levels of silica(sand). I put an amsoil filter in it and silica was non existent. If you are going to bolt one on I would suggest cannibalizing a foam filter. Put a metal screen in first, then either a oiled foam, paper or some form of synthetic media for filtering that is easily removed when parked or at a show. You could likely use a cotton sheet with foam in between 2 pieces and a heavy duty elastic band. Just band it on when your riding and remove when parked. It wouldn't be pretty but neither is a scored cylinder wall.
There must be some model of stack that is filtered. Must be.
