My point is fxdx's are a really popular model right now but other dyna's can be upgraded if yo get a better deal on 1. Also the newer bikes with 6 speeds and 96" fuelinjected engines with better cam chain tensioners are nice too.

It appears to be in really good condition despite mileage. I took it for a test drive felt really squirly not sure if it's bad tires or low tire pressure. I think it has been mostly sitting for last couple years. Is $5k a good price?

I checked kbb and nada they both quoted around $5500 retail for excellent.
Stock? Ever been dropped?
Simple thing to check tire pressure. I would make sure there isn't something wrong with the bike if its squirly like alignment etc if its been dropped. There is several adjustments on the forks/shocks which if out of adjustment could cause this too.

If its in good shape 5k isn't out of the ballpark. My 2000 FXDX was much more, but it was in prime shape with only 10k miles and a built enigine. It was squirly at first too, but it had been lowered. I put it back to stock height and changed the back shocks to Works Trekkers (owner had replaced the oem ones with a shorter progressives). Stable as a rock now.

99's aren't the best year. I didn't pay much more than that for mine and it had under 16,000 miles and was in excellent condition. The guy I got it from was hard up for money and I had cash in hand. Worth it to keep looking. I just kept checking craigslist everyday for a couple of months.

I posted the link they didn't have any pictures on craigslist.

Never been dropped and not stock. Might be a suspension issue like you said causing the squirly handling. Looks like they changed out rear shock.

He wasn't sure but thought they might have put a big bore kit on it, but no documentation of improvements. It seems like they had some decent improvements. Bike was in excellent cosmetic condition

Picture I took of bike here when I checked it out:

I appreciate the feedback guys!

The front ends of the FXDX are notoriously undersprung and damped. So the front forks need setup for your weight with proper oil and springs.

The Dunlops are garbage. Ditch them for Metz 880s.

The 13.6 inch OEM FXDX rear shocks are crucial to handling and will cost you about $700-1200.00 bux for good units to replace the shocks on that scooter since the fella removed the good ones that came factory on it.

Ditch the forwards for the factory OEM mid controls.

Remove the windshield.

Remove the crash bar.

Install a more aggressive drag style handlebar.

If you address those issues that FXDX will no longer be "squirrelly" it will be a handling machine ready to carve the canyons.

That being said I wouldnt take $5k for that one if it was mine. The FXDX are quickly being bought up and will be hard to come by quicker by the day. I have a 2000 FXDX with 4100 miles on the Odo and it would take alot for me to part with it. There are those in the know about the FXDX and there are those who walk by them not realizing what they are looking at. $5k better snag it.....quick

The stock Dunlops for the FXDX are actually the K591. Most end up getting replaced by some sort of D402 or similar. The K591 are better than the Metzler 880's for handling. The 880's are more of a high mileage tire. There are better options than that. The Pirelli Night Dragons, Avon Venoms, Dunlop GT501 or the K591 are all better for handling.

You pretty much described my intention for the bike. Just debating whether to pick this one up or wait for another to come along setup closer to how I would like it with less miles. I would definitely be willing to pay more if had original fxdx shocks, better mileage, better documentation, etc...

It a Le Pera Silhouette Solo Deluxe and its very comfortable. I can ride it all day. Tried several others like it and just didn't compare.

I think the works 13.6" black trekkers give the OEM rear shocks a run for their money and are only $525. So many people lower FXDX's and it such a shame to distroy the handling of it. That's the #1 thing about this model.

The prices isn't bad. A newer one has many improvements though. Many things changed in 2000 such as dual piston calipers.

You just have to decide if this one is good enough. You always run the risk of a 10 year old bike having many mods setup for someone else. You almost always need to mod for yourself. I know I did and Im happy.
