When I install my apes on my 2011 wide glide will I have to remove the gas tank to get to the wiring? Sorry if it's a dumb question but just want to be ready when I get them. Thanks, Bill
you will not have to remove your tank just unbolt and slide it back a little bit to be able to get to the throttle linkage and remove the cables.
caution: when you slide it back make sure you pay close attention to the clamps that secure the cross over fuel line on the bottom of the tank in the front. the clamps are kind of sharp and can gouge the rocker box covers.
I took out the front and rear tank bolts, slid the tank back and put a towel over it to keep it safer. As mentioned before, watch out for the crossover under the backbone. Also, I made sure to have as little gas possible in the tank to make it easier to move around. Good luck and post pics!
Thanks for the info guys. Sliding the tank back will be a whole lot easier then taking it off. I'm not getting too crazy with the bars. Going with 12" Hill Country Customs. The way the wide glide seat sits low the 12" are just enough for me. After a while I know I'll be bitchin that I should have went higher but we'll see.
I did mine without taking the tank off or moving it just make sure if you dont remove it that you cover the tank with somthing soft as you will drop somthing i used an old yoga mat nice and soft rubber.
Mine could have been easy to get at the cables and wires as i have a tank lift on just a thought.
