Since this newfangled fuel injection is really new to me being I've only had carbed bikes, I talked to the selling dealer (who sold it to the original buyer) and asked if it was dynoed after they installed the cams and exhaust, and he said, "no, we buy the maps from Harley". I got a little orange box with a plug on it with the bike and the previous owner said it was the program for the bike. I have no idea what, if anything, I am to do with it other than keep it in the attic. Anyway, are the "bought maps" close enough or would I really gain much having it dynoed for God know's how much money? Or... should I look into one of those real time aftermarket "adjusters" for the FI?
Keep the box safe and yes, they are fine, nowadays there is so much info available for EFI mapping that if you are using a tried and tested combo of upgrade parts you can install a map from a can and it will work just as it is supposed to do.

The orange box is the SERT (probably the street legal one). This acts as bridge between the computer and the bike for the computer to interact with the ECM.
Keep this safe as it's married to your bike and cannot be re-used on any other bike. You will need this if you do any changes to your bike and the bike's ECM or fuel tables.
I would be leery of "we just buy maps from Harley". What does that mean? I can't imagine Harley doing any dyno then selling someone else a map. They most likely just installed a canned map downloaded from the SERT software.
I'd suggest getting the SERT software installed on a laptop, hooking it up to the ECM and see what's on there. Unless you trust it was done right, which based upon your post I don't believe you do.

The bike seems to run fine, maybe a little rich as the pipes are black, but it doesn't stumble at all and runs strong. As far as this SERT software, I am pretty good at computers, but I wouldn't know what to do with it if I had it. Can you change mixtures, timing, etc. with it? I've heard of the Cobra Fi2000 being used over on the Sporty forum, and there are mixed reviews. That's what I was talking about when I said "real time" tuner. Anyone have experience with them?

That kind of flies in the face of conventional wisdom in that the VE of each identically equipped bike is different enough to make a difference, there is no tried and tested combo that works for every bike, but you typically get lucky and its close enough. It should make good power, but smoothness may be way off. There are numerous posting here of much better results with a competent tune... but good may be good enough for most folks.

There is the cobra power pro, the power commander with auto tune, and the thunder max. I'm sure there are others out there as well. The thundermax is probably the best with the pc-v w/ auto tune coming in second.
As far as the software goes you are better off since you already have the SERT paying the money to get the bike dyno'd.
