I received my short shots today and replacing the stock baffles with the quiet ones. The packing thats wrapped around them stays on correct? From my understanding it will burn off? The stocks ones I pulled out didn't have anything wrapped around them. Whats the purpose of leaving the wrap on them if it will just burn off? Or it doesn't burn off and there is a purpose for it being on there.
After reading this I went out to the garage to check the box the baffles came in. I took that wrap off. Are you suppose to leave it on? To late now there in the pipes now.
Nope...heat shield is already at the UPS store. Called Dennis Kirt and they said just send the shield back and they will sent out a new one. Sucks for me, was looking foward to putting them on Sat morning.
Ever hear of "GlassPak" mufflers? That is what that wrap was, a high heat spun glass wrap that is suppose to help deaden the sound. That is what makes them the "Quiet" baffles. It would be a long time before they burn off since glass melts at a much higher temperature then your pipes will ever get. If you really want the "Quiet" from the "Quiet" baffles, remove the baffles and rewrap them with the spun glass. Since you must have obviously remove the Mylar tape that held the glass in place you may have to get some stainless steel tie wire to secure them back on. If not, you might as well install your old baffles as you have just wasted your money buying the "Quiet" and may have well just thrown that money in the trash in the first place.
