Default Race Tech Emulators: Clicking sound?

I installed a set of chrome fork lowers, Race Tech springs and their Gold Valve Emulators last night on my 2005 FXDL. I lowered it one inch using the supplied top out springs and cut the supplied aluminium pipe to an appropriate length for preload. I made sure to use the supplied washers above and below the spacers.

This morning at the shop I noticed a clicking sound when I compressed the suspension. Anyone know if this is normal with the Emulators? Think I messed something up? It wouldn't be the first time!

I wish there wasn't snow on the ground as I want to test these things out. I'm a little concerned that the suspension isn't as stiff as I suspected (eventhough I went to the Screamin' Eagle Fork oil) but I won't know for sure for another month or so.

Any thoughts?

I set mine up with 2 turns in from having no tension on the spring. That's what was prescribed in the instructions though they said that that is a baseline and individuals may want to tune differently.

Here's another question related to this whole thing: it was suggested by a buddy that I increase the preload by putting in longer spacer tubing. The thing I don't get is how that would increase preload if the springs are a straight rate spring. I understand how this works on progressive rate springs but not straight rate. Am I missing something?

I never had any clicking sound from mine ... WRT your friends suggestion ... I think all you would be doing would be adding back some of the lowering height ...

* * *

... actually, come to think of it some more ... and having consulted the installation instructions here http://www.racetech.com/articles/emulatorfitting.htm ... I believe your rebound springs were twice as long as the stock springs you removed ... hence, while adding a longer spacer at the top of the main springs would compress the spring a little ... it might offset the rebound spring a little, but it shouldn't affect your lowering by very much if at all ....

... I believe it would affect your preload somewhat ... even if yours is a 'straight rate' vice progressive wound spring ...

You wouldn't happen to remember what you ended up with for spacer length, do you? I cut mine to 11.3 cm. I'm 180lbs. Thanks!
