OK I'm sure this has been covered before but I wouldn't have a clue how to find it in the search function.I have an 06 Street Bob I'd like to put 2012 wheels on it I know the axels are different sizes. Can I just put 06 bearings in the 12 wheel and bolt it up or is there more to it than that?
not quite that simple
but not real difficult either
you need the overall out bearing dimensions for the 2012 (not sure if they changed since 08) and the inner bearing ID (1") to match the 06 axle
If someone can verify if the 2012 cup specs (and if they didnt change since 2008) than I beleive my 07 axle in 08 wheels would be same bearing call out for you
I found my bearings through VXB - wound up being 'All *****' I think but I can verify that later if someone doesnt post a sepcific p/n for ya
I just did this on my 06 SB. Bought rims/tires off here from another member off a 2010 SB. The axle and bearings on the 2010 were 25mm and the 06 are 1". The indy shop I had it done at ordered the new inner spacer and bearing kit from HD for both front and rear axle. The bearings didn't sit in at the same dimensions as the stock rims, so they then had to machine down the outer spacers a little bit in front and back. Others may have an easier way of doing it, but that's how I did it. I'm not positive, but I think the 2010 & 2012 have the same size axle and shafts, I'm sure someone else will know. They look much better than the stock chrome rims
All of the 3/4",1" and 25mm bearings have the same outer dimension. Your 06 will have 1" bearings front and rear. The 2012 will have 25mm bearings. The 25mm bearing is a slimmer bearing than the 1" bearing. So you would first have to determine if the 2012 hub is machined only enough to fit the bearing into the pocket. If it is then your 1" bearings will stick out and cause spacer issues. You basically want to make sure that you will be able to maintain the exact measurement between the outer faces of the bearings so that the stock outer spacers can be used. Now, all of that being said, 25mm=0.9843" So it just might be possible to leave the 25mm bearings in the 2012 wheels and buy 25mm axles and spacers and save yourself all of the headaches of measuring and machining.

I looked into the axles as well to avoid the headache, cost is why I went with the different bearing kits. If I remember right, new axles were a couple hundred each.

Damn!!!! Where they made of titanium? When I installed WG trees on my old 2009 StreetBob and used a 21" wheel I had to buy a 25mm WG front axle and spacers. I only paid around $75.00 for the front axle and outer spacers. Retail price for the 25mm front axle is $75.00 but there used to be an online HD parts dealer that had it for $45.00. So I ordered everything from them.
I just pulled the axle's for an 09 on Ronnie's and they are about $70 a piece. I was definitely looking at the wrong parts book at the Indy's when I was there. You still may run into spacer issues.
hi just check b.k riders site i paid 45.00 few year ago for chrome axel .they also have on ebay .some shim to reduce from 1 inche to 25mm.been done many time .mrfuji
