I was thinking about trading in my wide glide for something that has mid control. But before I do that, I want to know the level of difficutly or the cost it would take to mod my dyna with mid control.
I'm sure there are pros out there that can give me a straight answer. Would it be better to go ahead and trade in for something that already has mid controls or modify my wide glide to have mids instead of forward?
I would suggest you include the year of your FXDWG. Also, provide a reason why you want to do this, as users here may be able to suggest other alternatives.
Its a 2010 FXDWG and the reason I want to do this is because I'm getting a lot of inspiration from roland sands designs. I also like the way the look and I imagine you'd have better control. I also want to make it a dual purpose too. I plan on getting a little rugged with this bike
It is not that difficult, but a little involved to change the inner and outer primary covers ... installing the brake side is just turning some wrenches and same with the shift side once the primary is changed out ...
To remove the inner primary, you'll need a primary locking tool, some big sockets (forget sizes off the top of my head) and a torque wrench to ensure torque values are correct when reinstalling the clutch basket and the compensator sprocket ... there are a couple of options of the primary locking tool ... there is a kind of stair-step wedge you can use or a 7" flat stock that wedges between the sprockets ... but, you'll need to buy or borrow one to remove and install the primary ...
Not trying to scare you off ... as I say, it is not that difficult ... you will probably want to buy a manual for your model year if you do not already have one ...
Good luck ... post up any specific questions when you get started ... there are a ton of people on here who've done it ...
