How are you guys getting It so smooth with rattle can? Below are pics of my first round and they are good from but far from good. The first time I cleaned it off with 3m prep spray and got tiny bubbles. I thought it was overspray but I peeled and re-painted them today and same results and I cleaned the parts off with rubbing alcohol. I have a HVLP paint sprayer I may try next. But you guys seem to be doing great with the rattle can. So far the appliance has been more forgiving. Thank!
Ok that makes me feel a little better then, but some spots are pretty damn smooth like the cap. I just realized a couple days ago I had a brand new HVLP sprayer in my garage so I'm curious to try that and see if it will lay it down smoother. Once I figure it out I'm thinking about doing my SUV like the dipyourcarp.com guy. I just want to get it as smooth as I can before I tackle that so it doesn't look crappy. Once I figure it out hopefully some flat black will look good on my bike too. We'll see!
The solvent in plastidip evaporates at a fast pace. If you spray each coat to thick......the solvent will be trapped under the thick coat and the only way it can get to the surface is to create bubbles as it escapes. This is what makes it rough looking. A series of thin coats will be smooth as paint.
This is how it worked for me

Now that makes sense of the little crater looking spots. I'm trying round three to see if I can get it smooth, but ran out so I need to get more.
I love the stuff also, sticks like **** to a blanket, I painted my chrome belt guard about 2 weeks ago. It has held up fine, although it does have a rubbery feel, which is not a problem for the part it is on.
I would like to do a few other bits and pieces but it is very expensive in Australia, $40 a spray can. Looking on the net looks like it is only about $7 a can in the States.
Just need to find an Australian Distributor that prices it reasonably, can't see freight costing $33 a can.
